What does third-party car insurance cover?

Prepared from the official page

Third-party car insurance (compulsory motor insurance) covers what you must pay others when your car causes an accident inside Saudi Arabia: their injuries, damage to their property and their expenses, up to SAR 10 million. It does not cover damage to your own car.

Steps

  1. It covers bodily injury to other people inside or outside the car, including death and total or partial disability.
  2. It covers damage to other people's property, and the expenses they have because of the accident.
  3. The company's maximum is SAR 10 million for one accident and during the policy period, for injuries, damage and expenses together.
  4. It does not cover: damage to your car, your property or the driver's property, or death or injury of the insured person or the driver.
  5. The company also does not pay in cases such as racing, car drifting (tafheet), a deliberate accident, and fines.
  6. The company pays the injured party, then can claim the money back from you in cases such as driving against traffic, running a red light, or driving without the right licence for the vehicle.
  7. After an accident: tell the authorities at once and do not leave the scene until the procedures are done, unless you must, for example because of injuries. Do not pay or promise money to anyone without the company's written approval first.
  8. If an insured car damaged yours: its insurer must settle your claim within 15 working days for individuals from getting it with all papers. If it is late or refuses, complain to the Insurance Authority.

Have ready:

  • If you repaired your car before claiming: the actual repair bills, and the accident scene must have been attended by the authorized body
  • In that case also: a vehicle damage assessment report from an authorized body, made after the accident and before the repair
  • Your bank IBAN, as the company may transfer the payment to it
