Maroof: how do I check an online store is authenticated?

Prepared from the official page

Maroof is no longer the platform that authenticates online stores: the Ministry of Commerce announced that authentication moved to the Business Platform of the Saudi Competitiveness and Business Center, the only approved platform. To check a store before buying, use the free, instant Inquiry about an authenticated electronic store service and search by authentication number, store name or store link.

Steps

  1. Open the service «الاستعلام عن متجر إلكتروني موثّق» (Inquiry about an authenticated electronic store) on the Saudi Competitiveness and Business Center website and press «بدء الخدمة» (Start service). It is free and instant, and the inquiry page opens on the Business Platform.
  2. Choose how to search: Authentication Number, Freelance Document Number, Unified National Number, Store Name or Store Link. Type at least 3 characters or digits, then press Search.
  3. The result shows the authentication data, whether the store is authenticated by a commercial registration or a freelance document. Make sure the name and link in the result are the name and link of the store you are buying from.
  4. Do not rely on an old Maroof logo on the store page: the Ministry of Commerce says the Business Platform is the only approved platform for authenticating online stores in Saudi Arabia, and authentication requires a valid commercial registration or freelance document and a commercial bank account.
  5. Check the store's own details: the E-Commerce Law requires a store to disclose its contact means, the name and number of the register it is entered in, if any, and its name or a distinctive identifier and its address, unless it is registered with an e-store authentication body.
  6. Before you pay: the Law requires the store to give a statement of the product's main features, the total price including fees, taxes and delivery charges, if any, the payment, delivery and performance arrangements, and the warranty details, if any.
  7. After you buy: the Law requires the store to give you an invoice showing the cost of each product, the total price, and the delivery date and place. Keep it.
  8. If you cannot find the store in the inquiry, or it does not disclose its details, take that into account before you pay.
  9. If you bought and then had a problem, see Dalni's pages "How do I file a commercial complaint against a store or shop?", "I paid an online store and my order never came. How do I complain?" and the page on returning a product for a refund.

Have ready:

  • The store's link or name as it appears on its website
  • The authentication certificate number, if the store shows it
  • A screenshot of the product page and the total price before paying
